About the FESTIVAL TEAMS

ART SONG FESTIVAL was founded in 1985 and takes place for one week every other spring at the Cleveland Institute of Music. The focus of the week is on the collaborative aspect of art song performance, and ten singer-pianist teams are chosen to participate. Ten teams will be selected from national auditions to Cleveland for a week of intensive exposure to the highest standards of performance in this extraordinarily rewarding repertoire.

Four major guest FESTIVAL ARTISTS perform recitals and give master classes featuring the FESTIVAL TEAMS throughout the week.  The Festival culminates in a recital by the FESTIVAL TEAMS in the Cleveland Institute of Music's beautiful Mixon Hall.

ART SONG FESTIVAL is unique because of its emphasis on singer-pianist collaboration. The Festival brings international concert artists, singers and pianists, to the Cleveland Institute of Music to provide the public with the opportunity to hear world renowned artists and to enable talented young singers and pianists to work on an intensive level with the FESTIVAL ARTISTS. Participants are chosen as a team and work with both the featured guest singers and pianists in the master classes during the course of the Festival.

Participation in ART SONG FESTIVAL is tuition-free, and the Festival provides single-occupancy accommodations in a dormitory adjacent to the Cleveland Institute of Music from May 23-28, 2022. Transportation and meals are the responsibility of the participants.

FESTIVAL TEAMS will receive complimentary tickets to the FESTIVAL ARTIST RECITALS by soprano Tamara Wilson with pianist Warren Jones and tenor David Portillo with pianist Craig Terry.
